A brief introduction

Hello if there is anyone reading to me!

This is the first time I’m writing a blog in English, or maybe it will be only a personal diary, I’m not sure yet as my English level is not enough high as I pretend, but this is the main reason to write daily or weekly: to improve my English level.

During this quarantine I’ve been listening to lots of podcasts in English, at first I didn’t understand a 50% of what they were talking about, some accents are really hard to understand, in my case, I can’t understand well the British accent, but my husbands does it very well!

I want to prepare myself for the First Certificate Cambridge Exam, I’ve never tried it before as I’ve been speaking English since 2012 when I moved to Ireland, and from then I’ve been speaking a little bit, not as much as I’d like, because it’s hard in my country to find people with who to speak in this language.

Do I really need this language certificate? I’m not sure, but it’s obvious that the global economy is going to change, moreover in Spain, we have a big amount of debt with another countries, so it’s very important to be prepared for future jobs.

Currently I have a job, I haven’t started yet because just a week before of all this chaos I left my before job to begin in the current one, but then we had to stay at home for the COVID-19.

Even I started to study German but it’s really hard for me to get concentrated, so I’ve decided to study as much as possible English, prepare for the Cambridge exam, and maybe I’ll study some German words, a little bit of grammar just to know how to introduce myself and speak some phrases.

This year I’ll try to have an immersed as possible into English, this is how I really learned English in Ireland.

I’ve been studying English since I was a child, my parents used to bought to me English classes, the typical installment you buy in the kiosk every week.

Then at school I studied English too, but it was different, they way we learn English in Spain is boring and slowly, we learn grammar but our teachers talk to us in Spanish, so it’s a weird way to learn a language, is not a full immersion, maybe the new generations are so fortunate that their teachers speak English all the time! Or even they speak a good English!

So my goal is to write, speak, read and listen as much English as possible.

How do you study a foreign language? Do you have some tips? I’d love to read you!

Have a great week and keep safe at home!

Regards,

Back to the quarantine

Hello readers, how is going your quarantine? Today is the stage 2 in my country! So we can go everywhere, visit our friends and family, ride our motorbikes, take long walks with our dogs… Things we used to do daily and were boring but now are just amazing activities to do! I haven’t written for a week at the reason was I began to work again, well, was my first day after two months in the company, considering that I’ve been two long months in quarantine at home.  This first week of work and of “real life” has been difficult for me, I couldn’t imagine how life would be after the quarantine, even I didn’t considered I could have some trauma as it was this: I had a trauma, I was afraid of strangers, the virus, the environment, everything scared me because I was as confused as all my workmates. We use PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) that covers almost all our body, even the workers who aren’t directly in touch with the customers, but the most annoying PPE was the mask, I couldn’t im...

Living with technologies

Hello readers! Winter is not coming, winter has arrived and has come like a hurricane… Brrr…! What’s the topic of the day? Life with technology. Before I met my husband I was like a boomer with technology, even for many years I used old and unfashioned mobiles without Whatsapp (Oh dude, that were really good times!). I didn’t know about smartwatches or personal assistants like Alexa. The only thing I own was an iPad and it was really useful because I bought it when I was living in Madrid and then moved to Ireland, so I kept in touch with my family through this device. And a few months of our marriage came to our house the first Alexa. Alexa is a voice-controlled intelligent personal assistant service, you can ask it orders like turn the lights on or to listen to music apart of a lot of things. This device changed the perception of new technologies I used to have, as I thought the robots will dominate the world and we will live like in the Sci-Fi films where humans are poor slaves...

A little bit of Irish stories and Ireland history

Hello readers, if is someone reading this! How is going your quarantine time? Mine is not as productive as I’ve imagined, but some days are better than others, so let’s enjoy the good days. Today I haven’t done too much but I have watched a lot of contents, first of all let me explain that I love watching documentaries and more over to listen to podcasts, this last is something new for me, actually I began to listen to podcasts about one and half year ago. My favourite topics are crime stories, reviews and information about films and history. A few days ago I listened to a podcast about the arrival of the Irish to America, a podcast made by The Bowery Boys who I highly recommend to listen to! I lived in Ireland for a year and was an awful year, this experience was a little bit traumatic for me but more traumatic was to come back to Spain, I had learnt so much from the Irish that my first months in Spain were really hard to adapt to our culture and behaviour, specially about how to be a...
